Bodie Mild At Cape Hatteras Nationwide Seashore Turning 150


October 1 marks the A hundred and fiftieth anniversary of Bodie Island Mild at Cape Hatteras Nationwide Seashore/NPS

October 1 marks the A hundred and fiftieth anniversary of Bodie Mild on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and in recognition Cape Hatteras Nationwide Seashore workers, with Outer Banks Eternally and the Outer Banks Lighthouse Society, plans a ceremony on that date.

The anniversary ceremony at 10 a.m. on October 1 on the historic Bodie Island Mild Station will function remarks from seashore workers, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Outer Banks Lighthouse Society, and descendants of lighthouse keepers. Guests will have the ability to expertise non permanent shows and reveals throughout the Double Keepers Quarters and the bottom of the Bodie Island Lighthouse.

The Bodie Island Lighthouse was first lit on October 1, 1872, changing the earlier lighthouse that was destroyed through the Civil Conflict. Standing 164 ft tall, the Bodie Island Lighthouse is considered one of solely 10 still-functioning lighthouses in the USA that contains a first-order Fresnel lens.
